Become a Merit Badge Counselor

New Merit Badge Counselor – Not Currently Registered in BSA
 

  1. Complete Youth Protection Training

  • Create account on my.scouting.org

  • Take online youth protection training

  • Print certificate
     

    2.  Complete BSA Adult Application

  • No fees involved

  • Position Code 42

  • Fill out pages 3 and 9

 

    3. Complete Merit Badge Counselor Information sheet.
 

    4. Complete Background Check Authorization Form (page 9 of adult application linked in #2)

 

    5. Read – A Guide for Merit Badge Counselors (BSA publication available online) - 
 

     6. Strongly encouraged to take Merit Badge Counselor position training on my.scouting.org to understand how the merit badge program is intended to help our scouts.

Already Registered Adult – New to being Merit Badge Counselor
 

  1. Youth Protection Training must be current
     

  2. Complete a NEW BSA Adult Application

  • Position Code 42
     

   3. Complete Merit Badge Counselor Information Sheet
